The Nepalese Adventure: Day 17
Day 17 - Wednesday
- As you get older, you realise you can never stop learning.
Life has so many new lessons to teach you. Today I learned that I must zip my
suitcase. Mouse made a nice little nest in there of shredded toilet paper.
Discovered it when I went to pack all my freshly washed and ironed (ok, so NOT
ironed) clothes away.
Nesting Time - Terrific storm last night. Went on for 2 hours or more. The lightning was incredible across the valley. Tried to capture on my phone camera but either "it" or "I" just wasn't up to it. Roads were closed today to trucks and buses as a result. Somehow it didn’t stop the political parties that descended on the village at stupid O'clock this morning.
- Had a shower before breakfast (after spring cleaning my room). Forgot my towel so walked back wet. It was raining anyway.
- Breakfast: Chick Peas and Naan/Pitta cross.
Interesting Flip Flop! |
- 10:00 – About 20 pupils turned up for computer class again today. They played for about 2.5 hours. Though most still don’t have great mouse control, they are getting bored of Paint and the Kids Mouse game I have for them. If anyone can find online some free downloadable software for windows teaching kids how to use a mouse, that would be a great help. It can’t be online as no internet. I tried to find something but after 2 hours gave up on the internet myself.
- The kids have to leave their shoes outside the Computer Lab and wipe their feet on three separate mats before entering. Sadly they still walked on my new carpet and now its messy. Grrrr!
- Lunch: Dhal Bhat
- After lunch I rigged up some electrics in Hindou’s room for her. She now has a light and some sockets. All of which is run from the 4 bar in my room. I think I’ll make sure its lights out for her at 11:00 tonight!
Light -(Sorry About Photo Quality!) |
- Also put a plug on the wire in the restaurant that leads to the TV equipment. This is something they also just jam in the socket holes when they want the TV on. TV has not worked for several days now. I took everything down from the shelf in the restaurant, cleaned all the currants off the shelf, taped up the chewed wires (not the first time that’s been done) and put it all back. All working but now the TV remote has had it. Half the buttons don’t work, one of which is the “OK” button. Took it apart (my penknife J) and cleaned grotty circuit board with alcohol wipe (my first aid kit J). Would love to say this had a happy ending but still doesn’t work. That OK button is critical to getting off the setup menu on the digi box.
- Found some plywood that will do for a new toilet door. Have to do that another day because:
- By mid-afternoon it was mayhem here. At least 2 political parties in the village, both with their party song blaring out of a static laden boom box speaker. Both within 100 yards of the homestay. Once one of them had decided to set up their station on the roof of the restaurant it was enough for me. I escaped to my room, put some headphones in and watched a movie.
- Spent the evening in the restaurant teaching the local teenage boys how to play knuckle rapping and hand slaps followed by more Uno.
- Photo shows Milan (homestay Son) climbing up to reach some tobacco to sell to a customer.
- Dinner: Dahl Bhat @ 8pm then an early night.
Comments Failing to Publish:
I've had a number of people saying they have been trying to to publish comments to the Blog without success (and I thought no one cared).Note: This was not just the technical incompetents (you know who you areπ) but even clever people like my kids.Oh, and Larry!I've made some changes which might mean this works now. (Tested from Google Chrome, iPad and iPhone). Comments will now need to be mediated by me before appearing in order to avoid you having to prove you are not a robot which I understand to be quite problematical on Blogger and I suspect some of you may actually be robots anyway!
Comments
Mouse training programs.
First of these is very basic, second one is a bit more advanced, though with a super nerdy sounding voice over.
