The Nepalese Adventure: Day 16

Day 16 – Monday

  • 5:45 am -  Awakened when a party truck (in both senses) arrived with music blaring.
  • No chance of going back to sleep so watched 2 episodes of “Blindspot” back to back. This was extravagant of me as I need to make the episodes last the rest of my trip so have been watching them only sparingly. This morning I just thought “Oh…” In fact, never mind what I thought.
  • 9:00 – went up for breakfast. No Theresa and the restaurant roller front was pulled down. Hindou was there and said Theresa had gone off somewhere. Considered making my own breakfast but decided I’d be better off not knowing what was in the cupboards. So, on a morning of extravagance, I made myself a coffee. I know that doesn’t sound too extravagant but in my rucksack I found 1 single coffee in a sachet that must have come from a hotel. I’ve been saving it for that day when I really needed it. That was today!
  • 9:30 – Kids from the school started congregating near the door to my room to ask “When Computer Lab open”. I told them 2 minutes. Let’s hope they understand Nepali time as well as I’m starting to. I'll be at east half an hour. LOL

    Class Turnout (on a holiday!)
  • 10:00  - Good turnout for computer lesson – about 25 of them. Some even put on their uniform. They played in "Paint" and "Kids Mouse" for an hour and a half. A few of the more advanced were starting to ask for something new. Ah! Nothing else prepared yet. Luckily I was saved by a power cut! Immediately all kids just got up and left.
  • Spent most of the rest of the day fitting the new carpet. With a break for Dahl Bhat.

After
Before

  • Got back to restaurant about 4pm. Head Lice removal going on at the front; to the music of the latest political “party” truck.

Had a mid afternoon snack of MoMo. these are like Chinese dumplings with mince meat (of some sort) inside. Covered in a chili gravy. Actually very nice.

  • This was dinner:

That was a typo. Meant to read: This was what I wanted for Dinner. What I got was: Dahl Bhat.

Went on the roof to watch the sunset with a couple of bottles of cider. Too cloudy to see the sunset very well but it was quite nice up there. Nothing to stop you falling to your death at the edge of course. Nice nonetheless.

What an amazing experience Chris. Sounds tough though and I don't know many people who could do it and keep us all entertained at the same time . Well done you xx

Thanks Ange. Despite the hours it takes to try and put this together each day - given the internet connectivity, it's sort of a link back to the real world for me. So feedback/comments always appreciated - Though I notice reader numbers are declining :(

LOL'd at the 'Nepali time' and your reluctance to open the cupboard. Ignorance is bliss. The classroom looks AMAZING!! I suspect this room is one of the very best in the village now. Hope you've got a Dyson to keep that carpet pristine.x

I hope Karen is practising her recipe for Dhal Bhat for when you get home. You aren't going to want to eat much else surely?! We'll stick to our normal Sunday dinners though, think getting Oscar and Lexi to eat the Nepalese cuisine might be a challenge too far for a 'relaxing' Sunday afternoon. Sam x
